Gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker to address the Chamber next week

Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker will address the Chamber's Government Affairs Forum on Thursday, June 10 at the Westin Copley Place Boston.

Charlie Baker is a former CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC), where he led a major turnaround that included a $220 million year-to-year improvement in financial performance from 1999 to 2000, and the amicable separation of HPHC and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Under Baker's tenure, HPHC went on to become the highest ranked health plan in the country for member satisfaction and clinical effectiveness for five years running, and was named one of the Boston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” for seven straight years.

Prior to his tenure at HPHC, Baker served as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Secretary of Administration and Finance. In that role, he restructured and simplified the state’s purchasing system, led a major effort to improve the state’s capacity to collect third party revenue, and oversaw the largest effort ever to modernize the state’s code of regulation. Baker also served as Secretary of Health and Human Services under the Weld Administration where he led efforts to enact welfare reform. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Governor’s Association in 1998, and is a graduate of both Harvard College and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
