Latest Chamber Jobs & Policy Update

The Greater Boston Chamber publishes the monthly Jobs & Policy update to provide members with insight into state and regional job trends, as well as a snapshot of policy issues that are critical to the region's business community.

January Headlines:

• State added 400 jobs in January; posted 2.9% job loss last 12 months, slightly edging U.S. annual job loss rate of 3.0%
• State unemployment rate rose to 9.5%; Mass. rate is highest since Aug. 1976, yet remains below U.S. rate of 9.7%
• Five of 12 regions added jobs in January; all 12 regions shed jobs year-over-year
• Retail Trade and Professional, Scientific & Business Services posted job gains in January
