The longest serving mayor in the city’s history, Menino has been a strong advocate for the business community – providing critical leadership through periods of financial growth as well as slowdowns. As the nation and the region work to emerge from recession, Mayor Menino is committed to improving Boston’s economic vitality and is working with the Chamber and employers to grow jobs, spur development, and lay the foundation for the city’s economic future. He has steered the city to the highest bond rating in its history, improved schools, and worked to make Boston a leader in green development and clean tech innovation.

A lifelong resident of the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston , Menino was first elected mayor in 1993. He served his neighborhood as a city councilor for nine years prior to becoming mayor and earned a degree in community planning at the University of Massachusetts.
