A&F Secretary Jay Gonzalez addresses the Chamber’s Government Affairs Forum

On Friday, November 20 the Commonwealth’s Secretary of Administration and Finance, Jay Gonzalez, spoke to the Chamber’s Government Affairs Forum. Secretary Gonzalez said he felt that the state legislature was engaging in risky behavior by adjourning for the year without closing a projected $125 million budget deficit. Gonzalez noted that responsible budget management is much more than simply hoping revenues will get better and solve the state’s problems on their own, and that actions to balance the budget must be taken. He also divulged that four unions representing 75 percent of the state’s 40,000 person unionized executive branch have agreed to forgo raises in order to combat potential layoffs. Secretary Gonzalez added that the state is continuing negotiations with other unions.
