Chamber monthly jobs update shows loss of 9,200 jobs in MA in September

The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce publishes the monthly Massachusetts Jobs Update to provide public officials with a snapshot of regional and national job markets and trends. The Chamber is currently working with business and government leaders to advance a policy agenda that will have significant impact on job growth and economic growth in the years ahead -including priority issues of health care reform, skilled workforce development, and corporate tax policy.

September Headlines:

• State lost 9,200 jobs last month; unemployment rate rises to 9.3%, up 3.7% last 12 months
  
• State falls to 207,600 jobs below previous peak, lowest jobs level since April 1998
  
• All 12 regions shed jobs last 12 months; seven of 12 regions shed jobs last month
  
• State posted 3.4% job loss last 12 months, moderately better than US job loss rate of 4.2%
